The Podere San Michele is in the Caduta district of
San Vincenzo in the maremmana countryside.
As part of the Biserno Farm, owned by the Romanof-Gherardesca
family until 1956 when they sold off part of the estate, the
Podere San Michele became the property of the Socci family
and they continued to cultivate the land as it had always
been cultivated despite the relatively small yields.
In 1994 however, the involvement of the younger generation
of Socci's, with their passion for wine, finally started to
gain some success and recognition for the wine that had, until
then, only been sold straight from the barrel.
In 2000, the women of the family took charge: Tiziana,
assisted by brother George takes care of the practical details
of producing wine, whilst Marina is responsible for the administration
and outside contacts.
In the last few years, thanks to a change in direction, not
to mention a few brave choices about the type of grapes to
plant and cultivation methods to use, the company is now producing
top quality wine from the new vineyards as well as the
old ones that have been revitalized.
Well-known winemaker, Luca D'Attona is a valued member
of the team. He started his career following traditional methods
and ideas, then moved on to more innovative, experimental
techniques and is now an expert and devotee of bio-dynamic
methods such as those currently used in some of the Podere
di San Michele's vineyards.
